OUP announces regional winners of 2019 Oxford Big Read Asia

o          Hasan Adil of Siddeeq Public School, Islamabad, wins Special Commendation prize at the Asia level 

o          4400 students from 107 schools across the country participated in the competition

o          Registrations are now open for Oxford Big Read Asia 2020   

 ISLAMABAD, NOV 14 (DMN) -  OUP announces regional winners of 2019 Oxford Big Read Asia. 

Oxford University Press (OUP), the world’s largest university press, today announced the names of winners of Oxford Big Read Asia, an annual reading and writing campaign for primary and secondary students.

 From Pakistan, Hasan Adil who studies in class 8 atSiddeeq Public School, Islamabad,won the Special Commendation prize in the Level 3 (classes 7–9) category of the competition. 

 Oxford University Press Pakistan would like to congratulate Hasan Adil who will be awarded a certificateand an OUP books bundle for his achievement at the Asia level. 

Winners for this competition are selected nationally through the participating Oxford University Press branches, and then become semi-finalists in the regional competition across Asia.

 Speaking about theOxford Big Read Asia competition, Arshad Saeed Husain, Managing Director, OUP Pakistan,said:“Reading books ensures a mind that is comfortable with ideas, which is a prelude to creativity.

The prime objective of Oxford Big Readisto draw young people towards reading books in depth, develop their comprehension and creative writing skills, and finally reward their effort and interest in reading and creative writing.”

 The campaign is open to schools and institutions in Hong Kong, China, India, Malaysia, and Pakistan through the Oxford University Press branch offices.

 Submissions from students are evaluated by a panel of judges based on originality of thought and expression, vocabulary range, and the overall quality of content.  

While voicing her views about Oxford Big Read, LubnaMehreen, Co-ordinator for Creative Writing, Siddeeq Public School, said: “I am thankful to OUP for organizing and providing a platform to young learners to showcase their critical thinking abilities.

 Critical thinking, being one of the four Cs of 21st Century learning, is very important so when you are inculcating creativity and critical thinking into your students, books play an important role in it. 

OUP has made a meaningful contribution by organizing such contests and providing avenues to educationists and students alike.” 

 All students from classes 1-9 can join the Oxford Big Read Asia competition through participating schools. 

Schools and institutions can participate by registering their interest to receive further details about the campaign at the time of launch. Oxford Big Read Asia 2020 is now open for applications and more details about the competition are available at www.oxfordbigread.com.
